The New P&W Design

So the new interim Poets & Writers redesign is live. www.pw.org It incorporates some really clever CSS tricks to yield a polished, graphic-oriented aesthetic while maintaining a text-based understructure. I may do a couple of articles on some of the more intersting ones. If you have something like Firefox with the Web developer extension, try viewing it with CSS disabled. It's still perfectly functional.

Of course, more recent older browsers may have trouble with it, but it really is time to upgrade and stay current, isn't it?

If you're considering a trip to Tibet (and who isn't?) you should definitely consider one of Karen Swenson's walking tours. www.snowlionjourneys.com

Check out her photo gallery. There are some absolutely stunning images.

David Mattingly (www.davidmattingly.com) has done a really nice cover animation for the upcoming debut issue of Baen's Universe. You can find it at www.baens-universe/cover/cover.html

You can also download the animation as a screensaver for Mac or that other OS. What's it called? Doors? Hatchways? Something like that.

The TOLD system now automatically maintains an RSS feed for journal entries. There are still a few things to work out in maintaining the xml file, but it's serviceable.

Anyone interested can find the feed at www.jasonkchapman.com/told/rss-feed.xml

Baen's Universe

Those of you who read science fiction should check out Jim Baen's Universe. http://www.baensuniverse.com// You can get a good idea of the kind of short fiction it will be carrying from the preview of the June premiere issue.

I have a couple of stories under consideration there, but even if mine don't make the cut, subscribe. Jim Baen has already done a lot to advance the world of electronic publishing for novels http://www.baen.com// (open, flexible, non-DRM-ed formats) and now he'll do the same for short fiction.

If you write science fiction or fantasy, it's a great new market. They pay professional rates and are very author-friendly. They're keeping as many as five story slots open in each issue for new authors who haven't had previous professional-level publications, and the stories that I've read that are going into upcoming issues are well worth the price of the subscription.

For those of you who are looking for a paper copy of The Heretic, there's one up on eBay. It's item# 8411378090.

So I'm *still* getting orders for paper copies of The Heretic. I mean, I really appreciate the interest, but I can't make it any clearer. IT'S OUT OF PRINT! There are no more new paper copies available. I see used ones pop up now and then on Amazon and ABEbooks, but that's it. Finito. C'est finis. Done. Over and out.

Yes, it's a little unwieldy, but you can still read it online for free at http://www.happyhacker.org/heretic//

Holy carp! I just a downloaded a completely unauthorized .pdf of my own book. Now there's a bizarre first.

I don't know whether to be ticked that it's there, or tickled that the offender had the sense to use a torrent.
